During startup under normal pressure, the bottom pumps of each tower must be switched regularly. Why?

In particular, domestically produced pumps may look very new and good on the surface, but it’s impossible to know when they might suddenly fail, leading to serious production accidents. Therefore, by carrying out regular switching during startup, it’s possible to get an idea of how each pump performs, so as to determine which ones require closer attention in future operations and which ones can operate for longer periods of time. This helps to identify potential problems as early as possible during the startup phase
The initial startup of the unit involved switching pumps in order to remove debris from the unit’s pipelines and simultaneously test the performance of the pumps. During normal startup and oil introduction, the switching is carried out to remove water remaining in the pipelines and pumps, thereby preventing accidents such as tower overpressure or explosions that can occur due to temperature increases. It also facilitates the switching between different pumps after startup. This is a very important and essential step in the start-up process.
In my opinion, the main issue is that during the startup of the new unit, dirt in the pipes blocks the pump’s filter screen, which results in poor pumping performance. Additionally, it allows foreign objects to enter the pump, damaging its mechanical seal and causing leakage.
I believe that both during driving and in normal production processes, the bottom pump needs to be switched regularly. This is done in order to inspect various aspects of the pump, including its seals, couplings, lubricating oil, etc. Although there are no faults during normal operation, potential problems still cannot be ruled out. On the other hand, regarding the spare units for rotating equipment, it is possible to use them as true spares to carry out inspections through switching; switching during operation is mainly intended to prevent excessive impurities in the inlet filter from entering the pump and causing damage to it.
