What is the purpose of the water injection port in a phase separator, and when is it used?

We are about to start a project recently, and the equipment includes a series of phase separators. Two of these separators have water injection ports, while others do not. I’m not sure what purpose these water injection ports serve, under what circumstances they are used, and what function they have
Which two phases are involved in this phase separation? Is there a water phase? Is it a continuous or batch process?
It is continuous; the materials are the oil layer and the acid layer (hydrochloric acid)
Based on our experience, water injection into the phase separator serves three purposes: 1. To promote internal phase separation. 2. Change the solution ratio of one of the phases. 3. Flush and replace the equipment or establish a liquid level.
