**The Ministry of Environmental Protection recently issued the **environmental protection standard “Technical Specifications for Pollution Control in the Recycling and Reuse of Waste Plastics (Trial)”**. Ma Zhanfeng, secretary-general of the Waste Plastic Recycling Committee under the China Plastics Processing Industry Association, told reporters yesterday that this is the first technical standard for the waste plastic recycling industry in China, and it plays an important role in guiding the healthy development of this sector. 　 According to Hou Xuesong, director of the Environmental Damage Assessment Center of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences and one of the standard developers, this standard is a recommended standard and is currently in the trial phase. This standard establishes technical specifications for pollution control in all stages of waste plastic recycling, including preprocessing, storage, transportation, reuse, and energy recovery. It is applicable to environmental impact assessments related to waste plastic recycling and reuse, as well as to pollution control and supervision during these processes. “The most important role of standards is to provide relevant law enforcement agencies with a basis for enforcement and criteria for prosecution. ”Hou Xuesong said. 　According to statistics from relevant authorities, including imported waste plastics, China currently needs to handle over 10 million tons of plastic waste each year. In our country, the recycling of waste plastics has given rise to a fairly large industrial sector with a large number of workers, but there are still many problems existing at present. Hou Xuesong said that during the research, it was found that the waste plastic recycling industry suffers from serious secondary pollution problems due to the small scale of the enterprises involved, and the environmental issues resulting therefrom have drawn significant attention from **the relevant authorities. By utilizing this standard, it is possible to control various environmental pollution issues that arise during the recycling, processing, and reuse of waste plastics. It helps to regulate production and consumption practices, thereby promoting the resource utilization of waste plastics while minimizing the environmental impact associated with the recycling process. This approach achieves a win-win situation in terms of resource circulation and environmental protection, and it also facilitates industrial upgrading and technological progress. “At present, the scale of waste plastic recycling and reprocessing enterprises in our country is generally small, and this standard will gradually help to improve the overall level of industry technology. ”Hou Xuesong believes. 　Ma Zhanfeng said that at present, the technical level of the waste plastic recycling and reuse industry in China is low, the recycling rate is not high, and environmental pollution is severe.
