In SW6 1998V4.0, for fixed-tube-sheet heat exchangers with standard equipment flanges, calculations are also performed, and the calculation pressure is based on the design pressure of the shell side? The previous 3.5 didn’t seem like this; which one is correct? What the original poster is referring to is probably a clamped type tube sheet; of course, it should be calculated based on the higher value.
The main question is: for fixed-tube-sheet heat exchangers, which pressure should be used as the basis for selecting the flanges on the tube side equipment? Shell side pressure or tube side pressure?

There is no need to calculate the equipment flanges, but the common data must be entered. During operation, if it is not checked for the equipment flanges, then that part is not taken into account; calculating it would be complicated, and it simply won’t work in such cases.
Of course, it’s calculated based on the shell side; it should refer to the shell side, as there are also calculations for the tube box flanges below. If the pressures differ, you can choose a high-neck or type B flange. They can be different!
In a fixed-tube-sheet heat exchanger, the flanges of the tubeside equipment are naturally designed based on the pressure rating of the tubeside side; it’s not a U-tube heat exchanger. The flange data for standard equipment still needs to be entered, and it also needs to be calculated; if the calculation isn’t possible, no need to worry about it. In the overall calculation, the equipment flanges are treated as virtual, and the resulting calculation report does not include any information regarding equipment flanges.
