Quench is a verb meaning rapid cooling, quenching, extinguishing, suppressing, and so on； Pyrophoric is an adjective meaning self-igniting; producing sparks upon friction; capable of catching fire. In terms of part of speech, this excerpt seems inappropriate; it appears that there is a missing noun somewhere later on. It should be \"quench pyrophoric material\" (or some other noun). A more reasonable interpretation is that it refers to a verb-object phrase, meaning: rapidly cool self-igniting materials/flammable materials
Actually, I just lack one word, which is the annotation on the PFD: the whole phrase is “to quench pyrophoric”, meaning that what comes out of that place needs to be sent to quench pyrophoric substances.
Since it is a PFD diagram, it can naturally provide more relevant information, such as whether it is a gas or a liquid, and which system it goes to, etc. After all, a PFD diagram is a type of drawing; it uses graphics to convey meaning, with text serving only as a supplementary element. We should learn more from ECHOMM in this regard*.
