In accordance with Article 2.2 of HG20546.2-92 \"Engineering Specifications for the Layout Design of Chemical Plant Equipment\", the power distribution room should be located upwind of areas where ammonia gas may escape. I’ve never understood this rule. If the goal is to prevent flammable and explosive gases from entering the switchroom, then many more gases would need to be specified; moreover, ammonia does not qualify as a true flammable or explosive gas, and the equipment in the switchroom should also be explosion-proof.
