It has nothing to do with the two sizes you mentioned; you can make it larger so that your sleeve can fit in more easily. In other words, it’s better to choose an integer size, such as 1-1/2 or 2’. You can even go bigger, but then it becomes more difficult for the equipment specialists – the larger the size we choose, the harder it is for them!

For threads, specify the dimensions as well as whether they are male or female ; For flanges, it’s the pound rating, diameter, and standard. If there is an insertion section, the length by which the nozzle extends out of the container also needs to be specified clearly.

Additionally, the equipment team requires flange covers, gaskets, and fasteners to be provided. The equipment specialty only deals with what type of flange to use, without considering the outer diameter for the protection of the thermometer.
