I’ve never really understood how flanges are supposed to be used Flat welding, butt welding, socket welding of flanges... convex surfaces, concave-convex surfaces... Which type of flange should be used in which situation? What types of pressures are they suitable for? (During the last drawing review, someone said that the flange grade was too high.)
Look at the standards – if the flange grade is too high, it might mean there will be waste. Hehe, it’s the flange designed by the original poster himself...
It’s clearly stated in the standards; just take a look and you’ll know. Generally, it's sufficient to follow the pipeline grade.
Study the relevant standards carefully; the explanations are quite clear. Don’t be discouraged – engineering relies on experience, and the more you do it, the more you’ll understand. What on earth do your proofreaders, reviewers, and project managers do?
When it comes to flanges, I’m really a bit confused. When there are changes in the production process in the workshop, application materials need to be submitted. For valves, the type, specifications, and model are usually clearly stated, but for flanges, only information such as the male/female surface, diameter, and material is provided – why isn’t the pressure rating mentioned? (Note: It is not a flange designed to be used with valves.)
By studying chemical equipment standards more and working on more related designs, one will become proficient in this area
When you have time, take a look at the standards – there information on the types and parameters for steel pipe flanges according to HG20592-97 available on forums; you can download it and review it. I used to work in a production workshop as well, and since some of the equipment has been in use for too long and no documentation has been kept, it’s necessary to refer to the standards more often.
