The 850,000-ton methanol project, which has set 5 records, officially commenced operations in the Changshou Chemical Industrial Park. With a total investment of around $200 million, the joint venture ratio between Huahui Group and Japanese company Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Corporation is 49:51. Create five firsts: The first domestic methanol plant of world-class scale ； The first set of equipment equipped with world-leading technology ； The first set of methanol plants with the lowest energy consumption consumes about 20% less natural gas per ton of methanol produced compared to similar plants in China ； The first large-scale Sino-foreign joint venture installation ； The first set of devices that are at the international advanced level and cause the least environmental pollution.

The groundbreaking ceremony for China’s largest methanol project, a joint venture between Chongqing Huayi Holding Group and world-renowned companies such as Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Corporation of Japan and Japan Advanced Chemicals Corporation, was held in the Changshou Chemical Industrial Park. According to the cooperation agreement signed by the two investing parties, the total investment for this project is 2.1 billion yuan, with a shareholding ratio of 49:51 between China and Japan. Senior executives at Huahui Holding revealed that the methanol project located in Changshou has a designed production capacity of 850,000 tons per year, with an actual capacity that can reach 1 million tons per year; it is the largest natural gas-based methanol project in China.

This project was signed before the introduction of policies regarding natural gas utilization; the most recent event related to it was the groundbreaking ceremony. The price of natural gas in Chongqing remains relatively low – the industrial use rate has only recently risen to around 1.35 yuan per M3. Assuming that 800–1000 M3 of natural gas are required per ton of methanol produced, the cost of natural gas amounts to between 1,000 and 1,300 yuan. The price of natural gas is indeed unpredictable, but coal prices are also on the rise. If other similar projects are carried out in the future, it is expected that most of the products from this project will be consumed locally in Changshou, with only a small portion reaching the domestic market
As a supplementary note, this project is the last natural gas methanol project approved by the National Development and Reform Commission
