I am a mechanic in the water treatment workshop of a urea production plant. The sludge at the bottom of the water tower in my workshop cannot be removed completely; it keeps clogging the pumps, so we have to stop operations and send people down to clean it out whenever enough sludge has accumulated. I’m asking if anyone knows what kind of equipment can be used to remove this sludge thoroughly It’s best to draw it without stopping the vehicle
A circulation pump should be added at the bottom of the tower to prevent sediment from accumulating there!
Or adding a mixer might work too; it doesn’t need to be on all the time, just stir it before pumping it out. What do you think?
The circulating water system used in urea production is on a large scale, with pool lengths of dozens to hundreds of meters; there is no precedent in China for removing sludge without shutting down the operation! Basically, it is manually cleaned into the sludge pump pit when parking. Silt clogging the pump? It should be broken packing or other debris blocking it. Real cooling tower sludge is still easy to pump out! If you’re willing to spend money on a new installation, then focus on the slope at the bottom of the pool – create a 3% slope leading toward the sludge pump pit, and install a mixer in that pit! Be careful not to let the pit form near the inlet of the circulating water pump! Personally, I think it’s not worth it!
Shuochan, you’re really experienced! My wife came up with the question, but it’s indeed broken packing and residue that are blocking the pump. Currently, we’re cleaning it manually, and it’s a pretty messy process, haha. I was thinking whether we could use steam to create a hydrodynamic pump – it would be both feasible and cost-effective. The inlet of a 40 or 50 gauge armored fabric-covered rubber hose shouldn’t get blocked. There’s not much information available on hydrodynamic pumps; I don’t know what the appropriate ratio between the inlet and outlet sizes and the taper should be. Could someone upstairs help me figure out if this approach works?
