Shut-off valve calculation?

Is it necessary to calculate the size of the shut-off valve on the pipeline? How to calculate it?
Generally, it is the same as the process pipe. Below is what I have extracted from our specification sheet: Valve Sizing Requirements 5.2.1 Valve Sizes • Valves shall be selected from standard pipe line sizes: 1”, 1-1/2”, 2”, 3”, 4”, 6”, 8”, 10”, 12”, 14”, 16” etc. • Non-standard sizes, such as 1 1/4”, 2 1/2” and 5”, shall not be used.
The shut-off valves on the process pipelines serve only to stop or allow the flow of the medium; they do not have a regulating function. Therefore, it is generally not necessary to reduce their diameter, and they usually have the same diameter as the process pipelines, so no separate calculation is required.
