Could someone provide information on Weihua’s \"acetic anhydride and acetic acid co-production\" project? What is the scale of the facility, what are the product options, and to what extent is competition present in this project at present?
This process involves using acetic acid and methanol to produce methyl acetate; methyl acetate is then catalytically reacted with carbon monoxide to yield acetic anhydride. The ratio of acetic acid to acetic anhydride in the product can be adjusted, with methanol and carbon monoxide serving as the input materials. This process is widely used in the international production of acetic anhydride. It requires less investment compared to the acetic acid cleavage method, is cleaner, and more cost-effective. In China, Jiangsu Danhua was the first to achieve a technological breakthrough, becoming the fifth company after multinational firms such as BP and Celanese to possess this technology; it currently has a production capacity of 70,000 tons. The planned acetic anhydride production capacity at Weihua is 75,000 tons, and the feasibility study as well as the approval for project initiation have been completed. Domestically, Hualu Hengsheng and Shanghai Wujing are said to have also achieved technological breakthroughs.
The preliminary design coordination meeting for Phase 3 of the Weihua Group Company project was held in Weihua. On October 24, 2007, the Technical Development Department of the group company organized a preliminary design coordination meeting for Phase 3 in the comprehensive conference room of the Weihua Group Company. Attendees included the manager and 10 technical staff members from the Weihua project department of Hualu Engineering Company, as well as over 20 people including relevant deputy chief engineers from the Weihua Group Company, staff from the production scheduling center, and process technicians from various workshops. The meeting saw careful analysis and discussion of the design principles, process routes, and technical solutions for Phase 3, with comparisons made to existing operating equipment. A meeting minutes was prepared, which served as a guiding document for the subsequent preliminary design work and laid a solid foundation for completing this work within the same year. (It is said that the preliminary design was completed by the Sixth Chemical Research Institute)
The domestic acetic anhydride market is relatively small and shows little growth, while acetic acid is seeing rapid expansion in the domestic market; as a result, competition will be fierce in the future. The key to competitiveness going forward will lie in gasification costs and coal costs. Additionally, acetic acid produced in China needs to be exported for consumption after 2009; at present, enterprises that integrate coal, methanol, and acetic acid production in China still have cost advantages.
I have solid acid catalysts that can be used as a substitute for concentrated sulfuric acid in the production of acetic anhydride. The advantage is that they cause no corrosion to the equipment, and they can increase the conversion rate while reducing costs. Those who are interested can contact me at 13915231812

Thank you, that’s great; I was exactly looking for such information :) :) :handshake
Acetic anhydride is primarily used in the production of cellulose acetate; cellulose diacetate is employed in manufacturing cigarette filters and plastics, while cellulose triacetate is used to produce high-quality photographic film. It is also widely utilized in industries such as pharmaceuticals, dyes, pesticides, military applications, fragrances, and metal polishing. In 2006, the consumption structure of acetic anhydride was as follows: cellulose acetate (diacetylated cellulose, triacetylated cellulose, and mixed celluloses) accounted for approximately 44.1% of total consumption, the pharmaceutical industry accounted for about 22.6%, the dye industry accounted for around 8.4%, while other applications such as modified starches, fragrances, and agriculture accounted for approximately 24.9%. Apart from its use in cellulose acetate as mentioned above, what other products are manufactured in other industries using acetic anhydride? I was wondering if anyone knowledgeable could provide some guidance.
The investment amount of 3.24 billion yuan seems to have decreased; it’s probably around 2.7 billion yuan, as some of the equipment needed for the methanol production facility can be reused
It can also be considered a downstream product of methanol
