Why is the pipe diameter changed before and after the flow meter?
The measurement of flowmeters is achieved by changing the flow rate and pressure measurements
For flow meters used in normal measurement ranges, their diameter is 1–2 sizes smaller than that of the pipeline. If a flow meter with the same diameter as the pipeline is used, it is costly, and moreover, it is not within the appropriate measurement range.
Flow meters need to be used for measurement under certain pressure and flow rates; if all pipes in the system have the same diameter, it may result in excessive pressure in the system pipes
For large-diameter pipes, diameter reduction is required; if a flow meter is used with such large diameters, its price will be extremely high.
Most pipeline equipment suffers from shrinkage; this is done to minimize manufacturing costs without compromising the functionality of the equipment!
On the one hand, it is to save costs; on the other hand, it is determined by the measurement characteristics of ordinary flowmeters.
Several people upstairs mentioned the cost issue of flow meters. I believe that this is not actually the main reason; rather, the measurement principle of flow meters requires a certain fluid flow rate (to generate pressure differences, electromagnetic signals, etc.). Additionally, in order to ensure a steady state of fluid flow at the measurement point, there are requirements regarding the length of the straight sections of pipe upstream and downstream of it.
The Aniuoba flow meter requires that there be no elbows, flanges, or similar components within a certain distance ahead of and behind it; there is no requirement for a reduced diameter
