Under what circumstances is it generally necessary to have a backup pump in the process?

In this process, the use of pumps is sometimes necessary and sometimes not; I would like to know under what circumstances pumps are required
Generally, spare centrifugal pumps are needed; those that don’t have them do so either to save costs or because the process is discontinuous. . . The kind where you can park. . . It seems that the metering pump wasn’t used (it’s part of an environmental protection process; perhaps the temporary shutdown of the drug production system had little impact). . . For centrifugal pumps that operate continuously, it is recommended to have a spare unit. For those that operate intermittently, a spare unit is not necessary.
Actually, there is still a backup pump with a higher safety factor
In different processes, the redundancy rate is determined based on its level of importance. There are relevant regulations in oil refining standards that specify how to determine this redundancy rate; it is likely that similar rules exist in chemical engineering design as well
