After creating a drawing in AutoCAD, we might need to import the image into other software, such as Word or Photoshop. Below, we will explain how to insert AutoCAD drawings into Word and Photoshop. I. Inserting AutoCAD graphics into Word documents Word has limited drawing capabilities; when faced with complex graphics, one can only sigh in frustration. AutoCAD is a professional drawing software with powerful functions, making it ideal for creating complex graphics. Once the graphics are drawn using AutoCAD, they can be inserted into Word to solve the problem. Methods of insertion: ① Use AutoCAD’s Export function to save the AutoCAD drawing in formats such as BMP or WMF, and then insert it into the Word document. ② Copy the AutoCAD drawing to the clipboard and then paste it into the Word document. It should be noted that since the default background color in AutoCAD is black, while it is white in Word, it is necessary to change the background color of the AutoCAD drawing to white in advance. Use the menu command “Tools→System Configuration”; in the dialog box that appears, select the Display tab and click the Color button. Another dialog box will appear, where you can change the color of the drawing area on the screen to white (i.e., R=G=B=255). After that, click the OK button – at this point, the background color of the drawing area on the screen will become white. Furthermore, when AutoCAD drawings are inserted into Word documents, the empty margins are often too large, resulting in an unsatisfactory appearance. Use the crop function on Word’s picture toolbar to make adjustments, and the problem of excessive empty edges will be resolved. This method can be used in Word as well as in other software in the Microsoft Office suite, such as PowerPoint and Excel. II. Inserting AutoCAD graphics in Photoshop ① Screen capture method This method is easy to learn and use; “everyone who works with CAD knows it.” Open the desired drawing in AutoCAD, then press the “Print Screen” key on the keyboard to save the current screen as an image to the clipboard. After that, close AutoCAD and open Photoshop. Use the menu option “Edit→Paste” to insert the image from the clipboard into the current file. Use the Crop tool to remove unwanted areas around the image, and employ the Magic Wand tool to select different sections and refine them as needed. ②Method for exporting in EPS format: 1. Start AutoCAD, open the drawing that needs to be converted, and turn off the layers that are not required. Use the menu command “File→Export…”, and select the “*.eps” option under save type. Click the “Save” button. Tip: This step can also be done by entering the PSOUT command in the command line. 2. In PS, use the menu command “File→New” to create a new file. Determine the file resolution based on the desired output requirements, ensure that the White option is selected in the Contents group, and then click the 0K button. 3. Use the menu command “File→Place...” and select the EPS file that was generated earlier. In this way, newly added graphics automatically create a new layer, making handling more flexible. Then, while holding down the Shift key, drag the handles at the four corners of the rectangular frame to adjust the size of the input image (holding down Shift helps maintain the original aspect ratio of the image). Once it is in the desired position, press Enter. Finally, use the Magic Wand tool to select different colored areas and make the necessary adjustments. Of course, AutoCAD drawings can also be exported in formats such as BMP or WMF and then imported into PS.
