Why is a stop valve added to the inlet of the drain valve? Is it better to keep the added stop valve closed or closed?

In order to facilitate the maintenance of the trap, it is normally open and closed when maintenance is required. After replacing the new valve, the shut-off valve is opened.
There are stop valves before and after the trap, and there is also a bypass for maintenance and to prevent trap failure. This is our pipeline, I don’t know the standard
If you need to use a gate valve, the stop valve is easy to leak and cannot be closed.
The purpose of installing a valve is generally to facilitate operation. 1. To facilitate maintenance or replacement. 2. The drain valve needs to be cleaned regularly. Over time, the filter will accumulate a lot of slag, which is not conducive to the drain valve. The drain valve is usually in a fully open state.

As for the question of whether to use a stop valve or a gate valve, I think there is no need to argue. It is more convenient to use a stop valve for pipes with diameters such as DN15 or 20.
