There are two reactors in the workshop; the production process is the same for both, but the reflux volume of Reactor #1 is higher than that of Reactor #2. We have checked the equipment as well – it might be a problem with the heating system, but the steam pressure is sufficient and the drain valves were just replaced. I would appreciate any advice from everyone!

The amount of backflow is related to the thermal conductivity, and the factors that affect thermal conductivity include the steam parameters of the heating surface (temperature, pressure), the reactor itself (this can be ignored if both reactors are identical), and the medium (stirring, liquid level). I think you should identify the differences in these aspects in order to find the cause.
Valve opening, cooling medium flow rate, etc
The liquid level in the reaction vessels is the same; the steam pressure is 0.3 MP, and both vessels are identical. The reflux temperature is 116 degrees as well – it’s the same in both cases!
Its solvent is toluene! Stirring is the same as well.
I also don’t know exactly how much worse it is, as per what the original poster said ? There are many factors that can affect a reactor. Ambient temperature is one of them. Maybe the two ambient temperatures differ greatly? ?
Is the feed flow rate the same? Is there the same amount of solution in each tank? All these factors need to be taken into account
The backflow rate serves to regulate the temperature. Let’s consider it from other perspectives; could you be more detailed?
