For a project that involves many towers, it’s difficult to decide how to install supports for the large pipes coming out of the tall towers. This is because support brackets need to be placed at the locations where pads will be welded to the equipment, in order to facilitate the installation of those brackets. In theory, the first bracket at the top of the tower should be a load-bearing bracket, with the ones below it serving as guide brackets. But what type of load-bearing bracket should be used? Also, if the pipes are too long vertically and exceed the recommended maximum span for vertical pipes, it doesn’t seem safe to use only guide brackets at the bottom. Good suggestion. Theoretically, the first one behind the load-bearing frame should be the guiding frame; that’s what many books state. I’m not sure what adjustments can be made in practice
You can take a look at the \"Regulations for the Design of Pipeline Layout in Chemical Plants\" and the chemical piping manuals, which contain some information on this topic. The parameters of the pipeline are still unknown, as well as the medium that will flow through it. Taking pipeline stress into account, the first load-bearing support is intended to reduce the impact on the equipment’s pipe ends, while the others may be considered solely based on the weight of the pipelines and the medium. It needs to be considered comprehensively
Large pipe racks can be used to provide information on loads and stress conditions, which can then be submitted to the equipment engineering team for calculations, along with the setup of the pipe racks
