On December 12, the Symposium on the Industry-University-Research Alliance for Biomass Technology Innovation and the Second National Graduate Symposium on Biomass Energy, hosted by the Biomass Energy Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Renewable Energy and organized by the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was grandly held in Guangzhou. Jia Jingdun, Deputy Director of the Rural Affairs Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology; Wu Shiming, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology; Chen Yong, President of the Guangzhou Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Guangdong Academy of Sciences; Wang Mengjie, Vice President of the Chinese Society for Renewable Energy; and Wu Chuangzhi, Director of the Guangzhou Institute of Energy, attended the meeting. More than 180 renowned experts, entrepreneurs, young scholars, as well as doctoral and master’s students active in the field of biomass energy from over 60 institutions, including the Guangzhou Institute of Energy, Sichuan University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Shandong University of Technology, and East China University of Science and Technology, attended the conference. The Industry-University-Research Alliance for Biomass Energy Technology Innovation was announced to be established at the conference. This seminar analyzed the current status and trends in the development of biomass energy technology in our country, and explored the future development models for biomass energy technology and related industries in our country. At the meeting, Chen Yong delivered a keynote speech titled “Some Thoughts on the Development of Biomass Energy in Our Country,” offering strategic suggestions and ideas regarding the development of biomass energy in China ； Researcher Wu Chuangzhi and Researcher Li Haibin from the Guangzhou Institute of Energy presented reports at the conference on the research progress regarding the biomass energy roadmap and gasification power generation technology, respectively ； Other experts present gave speeches on the latest research advancements in energy crops, biomass combustion technologies, biomass pyrolysis and liquefaction technologies, cellulose ethanol technologies, new biomass gasification technologies, and starch and sugar-based fuel ethanol technologies, as well as the development trends in the biodiesel and biogas industries. The experts present also discussed the current status and trends in the development of biomass energy technology in China, as well as the future models for the development of this technology and related industries. They were all optimistic about the promising prospects for biomass energy development and agreed that it was timely and necessary to establish a \"Industry-University-Research Alliance for Biomass Energy Technology Innovation.\" Thus, it was decided at the meeting to create such an alliance in China, aiming to provide a platform for exchange and cooperation between academia and industry, thereby promoting the healthy and rapid development of China’s biomass energy sector and contributing to the country’s social and economic construction. Jia Jingdun, deputy director of the Agriculture Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said when discussing the challenges faced in biomass utilization in China that the use of biomass energy in our country is still in its initial stages, progressing roughly in line with international trends in biomass utilization and development ； At the same time, China’s biomass resources mainly come from rural areas; the barriers to market entry are low, and the scale of these operations is generally small to medium ； Therefore, we should take advantage of the rapid development trend in rural areas to accelerate the growth of China’s biomass industry, striving to achieve an organic integration of biomass utilization and new rural construction. He put forward three suggestions regarding the development and utilization of biomass: First, it is essential to strengthen strategic research on the comprehensive utilization of biomass, such as strategic studies on the relationship between biomass utilization and ecological development as well as food security ； Secondly, efforts must be made to establish and improve effective models for integrating industry, academia, and research: driven by **needs, based on scientific research, while also establishing effective communication systems ； Third, it is necessary to strengthen international cooperation. Stay at the forefront of global biomass development, strive for independent innovation, and establish distinct characteristics for China’s biomass sector. The “Second National Symposium on Biomass Energy for Postgraduate Students”, held concurrently with the seminar, was attended by current master’s and doctoral students, young scholars, and nearly 100 others. The participants presented their research at the symposium, grouped into a “Thermochemical Conversion Technologies” group and a “Biochemical Conversion and Other Methods” group, based on the 24 outstanding non-review papers selected from 107 submitted for consideration. Zhao Yijun from Harbin Institute of Technology and Zhang Yu from Guangzhou Institute of Energy won first place respectively. The National Postgraduate Symposium on Biomass Energy was attended by current master’s and doctoral students, young scholars, and over 100 others. The participants presented the 24 outstanding papers that were selected from 107 conference submissions – those that were not review articles – in two groups: the \"Thermochemical Conversion Technologies\" group and the \"Biochemical Conversion and Other Methods\" group.
