The scope of knowledge in schools is quite broad; engineering processes often involve just one type of manufacturing procedure. To further expand one’s professional knowledge, it is essential to acquire new knowledge and theories. Otherwise, some accident analyses are not thorough.
When I first started working, I always felt that I didn’t have enough knowledge from books; but a few years later, I realized that the knowledge from books wasn’t sufficient after all
It was only after working on installations for a few years that I gained a better understanding of the knowledge from books.
One realizes too late that one didn’t know enough when it’s time to use that knowledge. In the past, when performing tasks, a narrow range of knowledge was sufficient; but now, working on engineering projects requires a great deal of diverse knowledge. I learn new things every day to improve myself, and I feel that I’m making progress each day.
I think there’s no less material available at HaiChuan compared to universities; I’ve already downloaded a huge amount of learning materials from HaiChuan alone, and I’m taking my time to go through them
One should keep learning throughout life. Knowledge is endless; enrich yourself every day!
I’ve been working here for two and a half years; I’ve moved from manually operating old catalytic instruments to using DCS control systems, and I’m still not fully used to it. Knowledge is really important – I don’t even know where to start learning! ! Being able to participate in Haichuan has taught me a lot. There are so many registered exams these days; just find one to take – it allows you to get a certificate, review your knowledge, and most importantly, it forces most lazy people to move from talking to taking action
It is very necessary to acquire theoretical knowledge. The focus is just different; for example, if your work requires you to learn something or if you need to find relevant materials online to enrich your knowledge, that’s much more useful than simply memorizing information. Being able to draw connections between different concepts brings even greater benefits, especially since knowledge is updated quite rapidly these days. Someone once said: A doctoral student who doesn’t keep learning will end up using the knowledge appropriate for a master’s student, and a master’s student who doesn’t keep learning will end up using knowledge suitable for an undergraduate student, and so on. This makes perfect sense
For those involved in the operation and management of chemical plants, much of what is learned in university is broad but not in-depth, especially topics that were not considered core subjects during school years yet are frequently used in actual work, such as financial knowledge, business administration, instrumentation knowledge, equipment knowledge, and so on. As work experience increases, it becomes increasingly clear that the knowledge acquired is insufficient; in fact, the most useful courses are the three fundamental ones: Principles of Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, and Chemical Thermodynamics. For chemical plants, high academic qualifications are not necessary; it is better for postgraduates and doctoral students to work in research institutions.
It’s extremely important to review old knowledge to gain new insights and to learn again. Once a person reaches a certain level, it becomes difficult to make breakthroughs. If theory is added at this point, it will feel like turning a corner to find a new path, and one will reach a new level.
By reviewing the old, one can gain new insights; only through continuous learning* can new discoveries be made.
I’ve had this feeling for a while now; right after graduating, I realized there were many issues, so I asked my boss for permission to go back to school to study for another year. He didn’t agree, and now I’m making up for it in my free time, but it’s very tiring.

In practice, it was found that theory is very useful; upon going back to read books, after reading for a while, it became clear that practice is important. It is theory that guides practice, and it is through practice that truth is sought, always with theory in mind
Sharing the same feelings, I strongly recommend that in the future, schools should emphasize the integration of theory and practice when teaching theoretical knowledge, allowing students to apply what they learn as they study.
What is learned in school is only the basics; one has concepts and corresponding ways of thinking in mind, and can progress rapidly through practice
By having a theory and applying it in practice, I feel that I understand the theory better
