When using our company’s centrifuge for car washing, methanol is required, so a hose must be used. The oil industry generally uses rubber hoses, as methanol has much better electrical conductivity than gasoline. I would like to use anti-static PVC plastic spiral reinforced hoses (what are commonly referred to as spring hoses), pull out the copper wires at both ends, and connect them respectively to the centrifuge and the methanol pipeline. I haven’t found any mention of such pipes in the various specifications; I’m not sure whether they can truly serve to prevent static electricity Methanol has a relatively high conductivity, resulting in less static electricity.
I think it’s okay to use the hose in the picture. It can also be derived in the presence of static electricity. The main factor contributing to static electricity generation in methanol is the flow rate; by controlling the flow rate appropriately, static electricity can be avoided.
Today I checked this type of hose at the workplace; the copper wires inside are made of a mesh structure and are quite thin. It seems to me that they might not be able to ensure sufficient electrical conductivity. I wonder if the seller is cutting corners?
Control the flow rate (below 5 meters per second), ground both ends, and the two devices must also be grounded. What you mentioned works as well, but it is better to use oil-resistant rubber hoses (which have good strength, excellent anti-static properties, and are less prone to leakage). Our company uses tank trucks to unload methanol, and we also employ the type of pipes you mentioned. You can compare prices; the cost isn’t high. I suggest using oil-resistant rubber hoses. For safety reasons, it is recommended to use oil-resistant rubber hoses to prevent static electricity, as a precaution.
Astainless steel corrugated hose isn’t it better?

PVC does not perform well in terms of resistance to methanol; it is better to use rubber hoses with steel wires that are resistant to methanol. Polyurethane bellows with steel wires are also a good option, as they are also wear-resistant. It’s no problem to drag it around on the ground.
Our plant uses such spring tubes to connect the tank truck for methanol unloading to the storage tank.
