Catalyst loss in catalytic reactions is a well-known issue. However, there are no specific reasons for such loss, and no analysis has been conducted on it. Here’s one example: When I set up the system, unpurified air from the power plant entered, carrying moisture at a level of 40%; this affected the heat exchangers used in the reaction process, resulting in significant catalyst loss. After emergency measures were taken, normal operation was restored.
Backflow of air at the pressure tapping points for the regenerator instruments, along with water carried in by the air used for external heat removal, causes the catalyst inside the regenerator to break down and get crushed, resulting in catalyst loss. Over time, this can also affect the fluidization in the inclined tubes; this has also occurred in our plant.
