How is insulation achieved for equipment such as instruments and containers? What is the difference in implementation methods between heat tracing and insulation?
I’m very curious too and waiting eagerly for an answer. When working with insulation materials, experienced workers often say that heat tracing can be done in the same way as insulation – is that true?
Insulation involves using insulation materials to minimize heat loss, while heat tracing requires not only an insulating layer but also electric heating tapes. It is mainly used in areas where the ambient temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius, in pipelines or equipment parts that need to discharge liquids.
For some of the pipelines in our company, heat tracing is applied first, followed by the use of insulation coating to prevent heat loss
Insulation is primarily achieved by covering the outer surfaces of instruments/equipment with insulating materials, in order to prevent significant heat loss or to provide protection against heat (especially for high-temperature pipelines); it is also used for cooling purposes. As for heat tracing, it is generally used to provide thermal compensation for media with special requirements in terms of processing.

Here, we use slag wool as the insulation material to wrap around the pipes; For heat tracing, low-pressure steam is commonly used as the tracing tube, which is wrapped around the main pipeline.
