I would like to ask about the number of times a metal gasket can be used – does it need to be replaced every time it is removed and reinstalled? Which ones are reusable?
Theoretically, any gasket used for sealing cannot be reused
Reuse is generally avoided, especially in important occasions.
Metal gaskets are typically used in high-temperature and high-pressure applications. 1. Metal flat gaskets are typically made of annealed copper or aluminum, which are soft metals. If there are grooves on the sealing surfaces of the end caps and the cylinder, the gaskets must be replaced every time they are serviced; if there are no grooves on those sealing surfaces, the gaskets can be removed and reused after being annealed ； 2. The Kazari gaskets have complex shapes and experience significant deformation under operational stress; these gaskets need to be replaced every time they are serviced ； 3. Wedge-shaped gasket: This gasket is made of a soft metal, and it tends to get squeezed into the gap between the cover and the compression ring during operation; a new gasket must be installed after it is removed ； 4. Wood sealing gaskets use steel metal gaskets; after removal, if the sealing surface shows no scratches or deformation, they can be reused ； 5. Double-cone seal gasket: The double-cone rings are made of steel material, while a soft metal material such as an aluminum plate with a thickness of about 1 millimeter is placed on the surface of the cones. Grooves are provided on the sealing surface of the double-cone rings; these rings can be reused after removal, but the aluminum plate needs to be replaced with a new one ； 6. C-type ring gasket: After removal, check the sealing surface of the gasket for any scratches or cracks; if none are present, it can be reused ； 7. Octagonal and elliptical gaskets deform after use; new gaskets must be replaced during each maintenance session ； 8. Triangular gaskets experience significant deformation after use, and new gaskets must be replaced during each maintenance session.
Theoretically, they cannot be reused, but things like metal wound gaskets can be rewound by oneself.
