Today I read the hydraulic testing instructions for a reactor at Lurgi in Germany; it states that desalinated water is pumped into the reactor, then the pressure is increased to 10% above the design pressure to check for any leaks, and finally the pressure is reduced to complete the process. Do we only need to test it once? I remember that in the lab we used to have to do it several times. I would appreciate some advice from those who are more experienced.
Why do we need to test several times? What is the reason? The purpose of pressure testing is actually to check for leaks. When under pressure, it will leak if it’s supposed to; what’s the point of trying several times?
There is no need to conduct pressure tests multiple times; I have made purchases on several occasions and visited the manufacturer to observe the pressure testing process, and in each case it was done just once. Sometimes, after testing at the manufacturing plant, a pressure test is conducted again after the equipment is installed, taking into account the possibility that the seal might be damaged during transportation.
