I would like to ask my colleagues in the field of low-nitrogen fertilizers: what is the resistance level of the semi-water gas desulfurization towers in your companies? What type of liquid distributor is used in those desulfurization towers? Do the distributors tend to get clogged over time?
The resistance of the desulfurization system isn’t too high; it’s generally around 6 KPa. Our desulfurization tower uses a trough-type liquid distributor, which is less prone to clogging.

The overall resistance of the desulfurization tower in our facility is around 4 kPa. The distributor used in this tower is of the tray type, consisting of primary and secondary trays. There is a pre-distributor above the tray-type distributor, and a redistributor is located at the top of each layer of packing. Overflow occurred in the desulfurization tower; at that time, half of the holes in the distributors were blocked.
The pressure difference in our unit’s desulfurization tower is only 7 mmHg, but sulfur foam is present at the outlet.
