Hello everyone, I have a question for you: I am currently designing a storage tank. The inner filling material is styrene, which is in a liquid state at room temperature, with a melting point of -30.6 degrees and a flash point of 34.4 degrees. The boiling point is 146 degrees. The explosion hazard is IIAT1, and the toxicity is moderate. Tank specifications: Φ17,000*16,000, approximately 3,000 cubic meters. The problem now is: carbon steel lining is planned to be used when designing such tanks. To reduce volatilization, it must also be designed as an internal floating roof tank. So, I would like to ask whether such tanks can be designed in this way, and whether there are any issues regarding equipment manufacturing and other aspects? Thank you!
I think it’s fine; that’s exactly how we do it in our factory. We use nitrogen sealing to prevent air pollution, apply radiation-resistant coatings on the outside, and install spraying systems, as temperatures are high in the south during summer.

Is polytetrafluoroethylene used for the internal coating? Are there no particular requirements regarding the intermittent control of the aluminum floating roof? Also, does coating have any impact on the installation of pipe openings used for temperature and level measurement? Thank you!
I see that the styrene storage tanks built by my master are dome-shaped tanks with nitrogen sealing and insulation; the insulation material he used is polyurethane. I’m also a beginner, so I’m not entirely sure of the details – I’m waiting for those with more experience to give me some guidance
A regular carbon steel tank will do, but it needs to be cleaned thoroughly. The arch roof with nitrogen sealing is the best option; the internal floating roof with a coating is prone to damage, and its performance will not be ideal.
