A recent environmental impact assessment project involved the production of 2-naphthol from naphthalene via sulfonation and alkaline fusion. After obtaining the crude 2-naphthol, it had to be purified through vacuum drying and vacuum distillation to yield pure 2-naphthol. Gaseous naphthol was present in the vacuum exhaust gases from these two processes; the solution proposed by the manufacturer was to capture this gas using cooling water before releasing it, thereby meeting the regulatory requirements. The same method is also applied to gases containing naphthalene. I had no prior experience with the condensation method for treating exhaust gases, and I felt that this approach was a form of primary treatment. Therefore, I would like to ask those experts in environmental protection: Can such a treatment method meet the required standards, and what is its efficiency? Yes, but it’s not very ideal. To add more detail: naphthalene sublimes, but 2-naphthol does not sublime; instead, its dust particles float in the air
Using low-temperature plasma to remove 2-naphthol waste gas is an effective method; the three production lines for 2-naphthol at Tangshan Baoxiang have been in use for 3 years now.
