Question 1: What are the test methods for ammonia leakage? Answer 1: There are three methods; the detailed procedures can be found in Appendix A of HG20584. Question 2: In what situations is it necessary to test for ammonia leakage in pressure vessels? Answer 2: It is used for detecting leaks in equipment linings, weld joints, pipe-to-tube sheet connections, as well as in the sealing surfaces of vessels, where high levels of tightness are required.

The new regulations classify ammonia leak detection, halogen leak detection, and helium leak detection as part of the leak testing procedures; therefore, they have the same nature as airtightness tests, only with much higher sensitivity. For media that pose an extremely high level of risk and for which even trace leaks are not acceptable, the designer may recommend the use of ammonia leak detection. As for whether airtightness testing can replace ammonia leak detection, I believe it is acceptable as long as the design approves it, since none of the standards specify exactly when ammonia leak detection must be performed.
