2007 was a year of steady advancement for my country's coal chemical industry. Against the background that international oil prices once hit the 100-yuan mark and the global demand for alternative chemical raw materials and alternative energy sources became increasingly urgent, China's coal chemical industry became an important part of my country's energy structure with its leading industrialization progress. Investment opportunities in the coal chemical industry are still attracting great attention from international and domestic investors. Breakthroughs have been continuously made in the industrial amplification of coal chemical technology. The construction of large-scale coal-to-liquids and coal-to-olefins units is progressing smoothly. Dimethyl ether and other related product standards have been introduced one after another. Next, the author will review the development of my country's coal chemical industry in 2007 from several aspects such as policy, technology and market. --Relevant policies still play a leading role in the development of coal chemical industry. Under the guidance of the National Development and Reform Commission's "Notice on Strengthening the Construction Management of Coal Chemical Projects and Promoting the Healthy Development of the Industry", my country's coal chemical industry has developed in an orderly manner, and coal-to-liquids and MTO/MTP demonstration units will be completed and put into trial operation within the scheduled time. Affected by the National Development and Reform Commission's ban on the use of natural gas for chemical purposes in new projects, coal-to-methanol will become the main source of methanol in my country. The "Medium and Long-term Development Plan for Coal Chemical Industry" that has attracted much attention has not been released as a formal document in 2007 since the draft was released for comments at the end of 2006. --The construction of Shenhua's coal-to-liquids unit is progressing smoothly. Shenhua Group's world's first direct coal liquefaction industrialization unit has been progressing smoothly since it started construction in August 2004.
