Tensile testing is carried out on a material testing machine. Testing machines come in mechanical, hydraulic, electro-hydraulic, or electronically servo-controlled types. The specimen shape can be the full cross-section of the material, or it can be processed into standard circular or rectangular specimens. Physical samples such as rebar and wires generally do not require processing and are tested in their full cross-sectional area. During sample preparation, it is necessary to avoid any impact of cold or hot processing on the material structure, and to ensure a certain level of surface finish. Principle of the Charpy test: Under specified conditions (including high temperature, room temperature, and low temperature), the impact energy is determined by striking the Charpy notched impact specimen with a pendulum once.
