During a construction project, our company discovered that there was a problem with one of the valves. Upon opening it, we found that the metal gasket inside was damaged. We are wondering whether an asbestos gasket can be used as a substitute. The valve in question is a globe valve with a pressure rating of PN6.3 and a diameter of DN400; however, its normal operating pressure is 3.0 MPa. Thank you! Is the gasket at the flange or inside the valve? If it’s at the flange, it probably won’t work, as the pressure is too high and it’s quite dangerous
Is it a gasket for the cover, or is a metal gasket used for security?
The details regarding the gaskets aren’t clear. If they are on the valve, do not replace them with other gaskets to prevent leakage from the valve; if they are on the flanges, consider the pipeline pressure and the type of flange. If you want to use substitute materials, definitely don’t choose this place; not only will the problematic construction team remain, but you should also quickly replace it with a metal pad. How is there no spare gasket? Was no margin left in the design?
Try to do as little as possible of the tasks that involve high stress on low-strength materials; asbestos gaskets tend to break easily
The asbestos gaskets seem to have some issues; in our factory, we use metal wound gaskets for loads of 300 LB, and they can handle even higher load levels
