Hello everyone! I’m facing an issue where the seal ring on the butterfly valve installed in my lined pipe has come loose, resulting in the seal ring being damaged. What could be the cause of this? Is there any way to prevent it? Please help me out; thank you!~
The separation of the sealing ring in a butterfly valve can be caused by several factors: 1. There may be issues with the quality of the butterfly valve, resulting in poor fitting between the sealing ring and the valve body; in such cases, the manufacturer must handle the replacement. 2. Due to manufacturing defects, the manufacturer may have made the valve disc fit too tightly with the sealing ring, leading to friction when opening and closing the valve disc and thus causing the sealing ring to come loose; again, the manufacturer is responsible for replacing it. 3. The media inside the pipes have strong swelling properties, such as organic media, which causes the rubber seals to swell and separate from the valve body; therefore, it is necessary to consider using seal materials that are resistant to swelling and separation.
Thank you very much, but we use rubber-lined pipes – could it be related to the rubber lining of the pipes?
Gasketed pipes are not subject to high temperatures or pressures, and the medium cannot be a solvent. So I think it’s a problem with the valve’s manufacturing; I can get in touch with the manufacturer.
LZ didn’t clearly state whether it’s a hard-seal or soft-seal type. There are many different types of butterfly valves – with centerline, 2-eccentric, and 3-eccentric designs. Of course, the soft seal is the one that can be removed. The valves from this company that we use in ordinary pipelines are quite good, which is why I suspect there might be a problem with the connection to the rubber-lined pipeline; for example, adding a gasket between the valve seal and the rubber lining could help, right??
It is due to the different expansion coefficients of the two materials, as well as factors such as long-term use and the quality of the sealing ring
