Does anyone know about the catalytic conversion of methanol vapor to hydrogen? ?

It feels strange – first there’s the use of natural gas to produce syngas, which is then used to make methanol, and now methanol is being used to produce hydrogen. Isn’t that going backwards? Methanol is made in this way, and then it is turned back into its original form – isn’t that a waste of resources? Because hydrogen can easily be produced from natural gas or syngas.
