What does “vestibule” mean in a boiler system?

"What does “vestibule” mean in “Furnace vestibule, cage walls, Furnace arch, Vestibule Floor, Furnace, vestibule, cage roof, Furance Hopper, Economiser Hopper Casing”? In the dictionary, terms like “front ear,” “front hall,” “forecourt,” “room in front of the kiln,” and “entrance hall” all seem a bit awkward; it seems they imply some kind of \"buffering\" function. In the dictionary, “furnace vestibule” has only one definition: the pre-chamber of a furnace. For reference.
