To prevent deformation (bulging or sinking) of the high-level oil tank, one or two safety devices that facilitate gas entry and exit while maintaining a constant pressure inside the cold box are now often installed at the top; these devices are called breathers. It is essentially similar to a two-way safety valve. When the pressure inside the box exceeds a certain level, some of the gas is automatically released, just like in human breathing, making it very safe. However, this respirator has a complex structure, is costly to manufacture, and is inconvenient to use. It has gradually been replaced by breathing tubes filled with silicone and connected to the atmosphere. When the pressure in the box is high, gas can be expelled through the breathing tube ； When the pressure is reduced, the inhaled gas is air dried with silica gel, preventing the introduction of moisture.
