Support the development of forums; strict management is needed to have good forums

Agreed; that’s indeed the way to go – strengthening the rules regarding posts submitted by member societies as well as the search functions. At the same time, during specific periods, the scoring criteria for posts that meet the requirements and are not repetitive should be increased slightly to serve as an incentive.

The forum must have some defects at the moment; experiments have been conducted showing that for posts for which points were deducted, those deductions are removed if the posts are deleted, and the same applies to points awarded. So deducting points doesn’t make much sense. Everyone still needs to think of other methods of punishment.

What Brother Hai mentioned does indeed exist. Since there are such flaws in deducting points from posts, is it possible for us to directly deduct points from the relevant members in the backend? Just like VIP members, points earned from donations are directly added in the administrator dashboard. I think point deductions can also be implemented in this way; privileges similar to those of an administrator can be granted to assist them.

I’m frustrated – I’ve posted duplicate threads this year. Every time I post, I do a search, but I always use the default options, that is, a search by topic: “HGT3934-2007 Dimethyl Ether”. I didn’t find any matching results. Later, a member pointed out that it was a duplicate thread and provided a link; indeed it was a duplicate. But even after trying several different search options, I still couldn’t find any matching results. How should I search in order to get the most comprehensive results?

Search range selection: Search all open sections. For keywords, it’s best to use 3934 – since the names of standards and specifications on the forum usually include such standard numbers, this helps reduce duplicates. Another option for a keyword is dimethyl ether. If the standard number is very small, like “89”, there will be many standards that meet this condition; in such cases, it’s advisable to include the content keyword as well, for example 89_wastewater. The “_” symbol acts as a separator, meaning that results containing both the “89” keyword and the “wastewater” keyword will be displayed.   Keywords should not be too long; 5 or fewer.  

As the number of posts increases and more people join the forum, in order to earn more points, there is inevitably some duplicate uploading of content. Moreover, the administrators are not gods; reviewing each one individually would require a lot of time and effort. 1. Implement a review system: documents issued the day before must undergo backend review before they can be displayed. Is this appropriate? 2. For some posts that have no practical meaning, such as those with fewer than 10 characters? 20? Should such posts be directly blocked or deleted? 3. Create more topic-based partitions with dedicated spaces for discussion and organization, which may reduce the workload on administrators.

Adding or subtracting points in the background is generally not used lightly, as cleaners say it can easily cause system problems. :L :L

        I think simply deducting points isn’t very effective. First of all, it’s necessary to establish strict rules for posting – the forum should set different guidelines for various types of posts, which will make it easier to search and compare them, thus preventing the appearance of a large number of duplicate posts!       Secondly, the rewards associated with resources should not be too high at first; on one hand, there is the member rating based on downloads, and on the other hand, rewards can be added after a period of time if the resource truly is of high quality!

It is recommended to add a second trash bin for posts.   This recycle bin will not be emptied; it contains all posts that have been awarded rewards or penalties, as well as posts that are no longer needed to be read (non-technical ones) ； Everything is packed and merged here. After the merger, no explanations or actions will be taken regarding any scores.   These include: repeatedly posted posts that result in point deductions, illegal posts, index posts (or historical contribution posts) with most of their links broken, and so on.   All attachments from the posts are removed, so it won’t take up much hard drive space.     This is how the report posts pinned at the top of the entire forum are managed; previous records were separated and dealt with in the dedicated thread area.     I believe the penalties for posting duplicate posts can be divided into 3 types: 1. Avoidable, for example, if the original post already specifies SH/T 0125-92, the Test Method for Hydrogen Sulfide in Liquefied Petroleum Gas ； The new post (reposted post) is exactly the same as it. In other words, it is easy to search. Another point is the information; the original post provides a very detailed description. 2. It’s difficult to eliminate this issue, as the original post doesn’t cover it (it doesn’t follow the required posting format), or the title doesn’t fully correspond to the content ； For example: as required by the posting rules, the full title of the topic should be SH/T 0125-92 Test Method for Hydrogen Sulfide in Liquefied Petroleum Gas; when the original post was uploaded, only “Test Method for Hydrogen Sulfide in Petroleum Gas” was written. Another example is “Electrical Engineering” – such books with common names come in several versions, and the original post did not provide any information on these versions (each poster has no obligation to verify every similar topic post, unless the post in question provides detailed information); therefore, we can only address those cases of non-compliant posting in order to create a positive feedback loop. 3. It is inevitable to add additional information in replies (which later gets split up) ； The topic title does not match the content at all. There are 3 situations in such cases, and it is up to the manager to decide whether to delete or keep it, to give a score or not, or to deduct points or not. The standards applied to regular members differ from those applied to those in the technical team or above; more tolerance should be shown toward regular members.
