Should the welding electrode be selected based on welding evaluation or on the drawings?
Under normal circumstances, container manufacturers shall use welding materials in accordance with the specifications provided in the design drawings and technical documents. However, they are allowed to change the welding methods and welding materials, provided that they meet the requirements of Articles 7.5 and 7.6 of HG20581, subject to prior approval from the design unit.
Design documents generally do not specify conventional materials; for special materials, there are descriptive notes of a recommendatory nature. We handle such situations frequently: the manufacturing party selects appropriate welding materials based on the equipment’s materials and provides a weld evaluation report, communicates with the designers, and only after obtaining approval from the design team does the implementation proceed
I think it must be done in accordance with the requirements of the drawings. However, if there are any objections to the welding methods or techniques specified in the drawings, or if better methods exist, the manufacturing unit can discuss this with the design unit; changes can only be made with the design unit’s approval.
Under normal circumstances, the design agency only provides the material requirements for the base metal, and it is up to the construction party to select the appropriate welding materials based on that base metal. Of course, in cases where there are special requirements, the design agency will recommend which welding materials should be used.
