Does anyone know whether it’s better to have the outlet of a boiling furnace at the top or on the side? If the outlet is on the side, will it affect the effective volume of the furnace, and to what extent? (This device is used for acid production from pyrite, utilizing mixed ore in the production process.)

I think that in modern small furnaces, the outlet is often located at the top, but in larger furnaces it is usually placed on the side of the furnace. This arrangement makes it easier to connect pipes, while also ensuring the strength of the furnace’s top portion. If the outlet were at the top, the size of the opening would be highly restricted; as a result, the gas flow speed would be high, causing greater resistance and an increased risk of blockages.
