Our company manufactures a tower device equipped with serrated liquid drop plates, the serrations of which should face upward. However, during installation, the workers installed the end with serrations facing downward and welded it to the cylinder. This is a serious problem – what will be the consequences of such installation? What is the best way to address this issue?
The liquid flow may be uneven! Affects the performance of tower equipment! Affects production processes! Cut it out and weld it again!
If we don’t cut it off and re-weld it, keeping the serrations facing downward, would it be okay to create serrations on the upward-facing end as well?

The effort required to resaw the serrations is about the same as cutting it off and rewelding it. Besides, when the equipment is brought over, it becomes a laughing stock.
The toothed end must be the toothed weir. This type of downcomer must not be welded incorrectly. Toothed weirs are mostly used in situations with low liquid volumes; generally, their liquid sealing performance is poor, and welding them in the wrong direction can easily lead to air leakage during operation.
Mainly, if the teeth are re-created, the height of the overflow weir will differ from what was designed; as a result, the amount of liquid remaining on the tray during operation will also be different from the designed value. This leads to poor mass transfer, which in turn affects the separation efficiency. It’s better to redo it; otherwise, if the product isn’t up to standard after being used in a vehicle, it will be even more troublesome to fix it then.
The serrations on the upper part are created as per the design requirements, while for those on the lower part, it’s sufficient to attach plates as specified in the design
