The initial distillation of tar is both the key step and the core process in coal tar processing; the level of distillation equipment is often used as a main indicator of the advancement of coal tar processing technology. The main tasks of tar distillation are: ① to separate the distillable or volatile components from the residue that cannot be distilled under heating conditions (in this case, asphalt). ““The fact that distillation is not possible” is not absolute; it depends on factors such as the maximum heating temperature, pressure, and the method of vaporization, and there is a certain range of variability. In tar distillation, the yield of distilled oil should be increased as much as possible, while reducing the proportion of asphalt. ②The volatile components are separated into corresponding fractions based on their boiling points, in order to enrich certain important components and create favorable conditions for further processing. ③ Dehydration: A small amount of water is inevitably present in tar, and water is detrimental to high-temperature distillation; therefore, it should be removed at a temperature slightly above 100°C. .
