Seek advice on the selection of the plug at the outlet of the drain valve, threaded pipe caps, and flanges

I’m currently looking at the PID values provided by foreigners. For the outlets of the drain valves, some use thread plugs, some use threaded pipe caps, and others use flanges. I would like to ask what are the differences among these options in terms of their application? Also, are pipe plugs used less these days? After all, it is inconvenient to perform maintenance on pipe blockages.

I’ve encountered many cases where thread plugs are used; flanges are also used in some cases, but that’s rare. It is said that flanges are used to prevent leaks – I’m not sure if that’s true
