I have just started learning *PROII and am not yet very familiar with some aspects of it. I would like to ask the experts here: What are the basic steps for using PROII in design? For example, when designing a tower, my understanding is that one first defines the parameters of the tower and its materials, then runs the program; once it runs successfully, a report is generated. The parameters listed in this report are used to assess whether the design of the tower is reasonable, and if there are issues, the parameters of the tower are modified until more reasonable values are obtained. I also often read things here, but the topics discussed are quite specialized, focusing mainly on one specific aspect. I’ve tried it myself as well, but I want to clarify the general steps to see if there’s anything I might have missed: time:
Do a few more PRO2 exercises and you’ll notice it. Usually, when the conditions are not very favorable, it is first necessary to ensure convergence of the calculations, after which the parameters are adjusted locally to gradually meet the requirements for separation or optimization. Patterns can be identified while adjusting the parameters. You can also implement it using case studies or optimizer modules. For example, adjust the feed position; the feed pressure ==. Although software can help us do many things, I hope people won’t rely on it excessively. We should still understand the principles – the core remains unchanged no matter how things change. Once you understand those principles, it’s much easier to adjust the parameters than to make random adjustments.
As far as I know, for calculating towers, a simplified method is usually used first to obtain an approximate estimate of the number of feed plates and the reflux ratio; only after that are more detailed calculations carried out, which improves efficiency somewhat
My experience: There are essentially two purposes for using PRO/II for design – new process development and process modification. In the first case, process modules and various parameters are designed based on raw material data and product requirements. In the second case, actual data is available; therefore, the principle of simulation is to stay as close as possible to those actual values, and modifications are then made on that basis. I’m also a beginner; I hope everyone can give some advice.
