A phenolic resin is used in the coating process for welding electrodes. Many types such as 2130 have been tried, but the results have not been satisfactory. Does anyone with experience in this area know which type of resin would work? ?
What are the indicators? Have you tried boron-modified phenolic resins? I’m not familiar with the pressure coating process.
The current manufacturing process involves using phenolic resin as an adhesive (to bond minerals and ferroalloys). The phenolic resin is mixed evenly with the aforementioned materials to form a paste, which is then placed in a pressure chamber to create a compact. This compact is taken out and placed in another pressure chamber, where pressure is applied to force the powder out through a hole; one wire emerges from each hole. In a mold, the powder is applied to the surface of these wires, resulting in what looks like the electrodes we use in welding. The key criterion is that the phenolic resin should be able to bond minerals and ferroalloys properly during material preparation, that powder can be discharged smoothly during the compression coating process, and that the powder-formed layer around the steel wire should have a good shape – it shouldn’t be too rough – and possess sufficient strength so as not to deform. Try using water-based phenolic resin; the viscosity and consistency need to be adjusted. For reference only.
