In the design, there is a tower whose height is less than 10 meters. Instead of using a base, the cylinder is directly welded to the base plate; however, foot bolts are used. How should seismic resistance be calculated in this case? Should the foot bolts be considered in the calculations in a manner similar to a base, or can they be ignored? In SW6, it seems that the foundation bolts can only be calculated based on the skirt base. It’s my first time dealing with tower equipment; thank you all
Is the cylinder welded directly to the base plate? I’m not quite sure what it looks like; it seems a bit like an ear-mounted support with a rigid ring, you know, that circular shape.
What the original poster might be referring to are tower devices with ear mounts; such devices are generally installed between floor slabs, and there is no need to consider their seismic strength, as this has already been taken into account in the structural design.
It doesn’t have a rigid ring-shaped mounting base; structurally, it’s equivalent to having a ring of anchor bolts added to the base of the cylinder. So it’s a bit confusing, haha
The cylinder can be welded directly to the base plate, which indicates that the equipment does not have a head; in most cases it is a pressure vessel at atmospheric pressure. Since the vessel is not tall, no stress analysis is required, but it is still advisable to add weld reinforcement plates.
