What type of heat exchanger should be used to cool a medium dominated by propylene using propylene as a refrigerant? What cooling medium is generally used in engineering for cooling media based on propylene?
It depends on the scale of your installation. We once installed a gas fractionation unit that wasn’t very large – with a capacity of 80,000 tons – and it used two sets of circulating water cooling systems, which gave good results; however, the energy consumption was somewhat high. If your installation is on a larger scale, it’s recommended to use air cooling combined with water cooling, as this reduces the water cooling load and leads to significant energy savings.
