Emulsions are formed through two processes: emulsification and demulsification. The demulsification of an emulsion can result in the separation of it into solids and water, which allows for the removal of some large molecules that are difficult to degrade, thereby reducing COD levels. If the solids are useful, they can be kept; if not, they can be disposed of by someone else – it doesn’t matter.
