The valve on the liquid chlorine cylinder will not open: (this includes cases of storage beyond the recommended period; generally, the storage period should not exceed three months). When the valve will not open, do not use excessive force to avoid breaking the valve stem. If both valve spools are shortened: replace the valve using a dedicated valve replacement device 2. Introduction to several methods for dealing with cylinder leaks: In the case of a leak in the cylinder valve, turn the leaking valve upward so that the gas chlorine can escape (when the valve is downward, liquid chlorine escapes). Check the leakage location: ① Leakage at the valve stem pin (valve core): First, use a wrench to tighten the pin, and then tighten the nut on the valve until no leakage occurs. ②Leak at the valve outlet: Tighten the ejector pin; if leakage persists, tighten the hexagonal copper nut (without holes) at the valve outlet. ③If the above two methods are ineffective, the leaking area can be wrapped with polyethylene film or thin rubber sheeting, and the filling company should be contacted promptly for handling. 3. Leak handling: Evacuate people from the area contaminated by the leak to areas upwind promptly, and establish a containment zone right away. Determine the boundaries of this containment zone based on the results of on-site tests and the potential hazards, and strictly restrict access to it. Generally, the initial isolation radius for a small leak is 150 m, while it is 450 m for a large leak. Emergency responders should wear positive-pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and protective suits. Seal the source of the leak as much as possible. All combustible and flammable materials must be removed from the site of the leak, and the tools used must not contain any oil residues to prevent explosions. Prevent leaked liquid chlorine from entering the sewer system. Ensure proper ventilation to accelerate diffusion. The spray of alkaline solution absorbs the chlorine gas that has evaporated into the air, preventing it from spreading over a wide area and causing poisoning in people outside the isolation zone. It is strictly prohibited to spray water on leaking chlorine gas cylinders. Constructing dikes or digging pits to contain the large amount of wastewater generated. If possible, use copper pipes to direct the leaking chlorine gas to an alkali solution tank in order to completely eliminate the potential hazards posed by the chlorine gas. The leaking liquid chlorine cylinders can be placed in an alkali solution tank; the tank should be large enough, with the amount of alkali being generally 1.5 times the theoretical amount required. It detects the chlorine content in the air in real time; when the level of chlorine exceeds the limit, alkaline solution in spray form can be used to absorb it. # , , &
Two alkali solution absorption tanks should be installed; if there is only one, it must be very large. I was involved in an emergency response involving a liquid chlorine cylinder, and the absorption tank was too small, becoming saturated in no time. Moreover, the reaction released a lot of heat, causing sodium hypochlorite to decompose continuously. With two tanks, one can be used for preparing the alkali solution while the other is used for absorption, allowing the tanks to be smaller in size. Theoretically, as long as the leakage rate from the cylinder isn’t high, the amount of substance that can be absorbed is independent of the size of the tanks.
