New member here – what is hydrogenation and hydrogen production? I’d appreciate it if everyone could help find some information on this

Hydrogenation can generally be divided into two types: hydrorefining and hydrocracking. In both processes, low-quality crude oils are processed under certain temperatures, pressures, and in the presence of hydrogen, using hydrogenation catalysts. This allows for the conversion of non-hydrocarbon compounds such as those containing sulfur, nitrogen, and oxygen into substances like H2S, NH3, and H2O, which are easier to remove. It also enables the saturation of olefins and certain aromatics with poor stability, as well as the hydrodesorption of metal-containing compounds and the removal of metal impurities. As a result, the stability, corrosion resistance, and combustion properties of the oil improve, yielding products of high quality. There are various methods for producing hydrogen on an industrial scale, including the water-gas method using coal or coke, the partial oxidation of residue oil or heavy oil, the steam reforming of light hydrocarbons, the purification and separation of hydrogen-rich gases from refineries, the steam reforming of methanol, and water electrolysis. Large-scale hydrogen production currently relies mainly on the steam reforming of light hydrocarbons and hydrogen purification from refineries; in recent years, the partial oxidation of coal as a feedstock for hydrogen production has also seen rapid development. There are many methods for producing hydrogen on an industrial scale; for example, our factory produces hydrogen by processing dry gas from coking, using PSA for hydrogen purification and separation.
