There is a plate-and-frame cooler whose working medium is liquid hydrocarbons with hydrogen sulfide; the operating pressure is 0.75 MPa, the operating temperature ranges from 90 to 140 degrees, and the flanges on the tube boxes at both ends are rectangular in shape. Since it was put into use, there has been leakage at both ends, and nothing seems to be able to stop the leakage; currently asbestos gaskets are being used. What kind of gasket would be ideal to prevent leakage?
Check whether the cause of the leakage is corrosion of the gasket. Could a 316L+graphite wound gasket be tried? It should give better results.
Fluorosilicone rubber gaskets can be purchased; they are resistant to heat, corrosion, and pressure, and possess good elasticity. These gaskets are widely used in Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers (for example, for cooling concentrated sulfuric acid in the dry absorption towers of sulfuric acid production processes)
